New Delhi: India is in the midst of a surge in covid-19 cases triggered primarily by the presence of the new Omicron variant. A lot of prominent personalities have contracted the virus in the recent days.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singhs the latest victim to have fallen prey to Covid-19 and he has shared this news via his official Twitter handle.
He informed that he has isolated himself at his residence and added that he had caught "mild symptoms."
The senior BJP leader has also urged everyone who had recently come in contact with him to isolate themselves and get tested.
The former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister had addressed a webinar on 8 January where he announced the setting up of 100 new Sainik Schools across the country so as to provide opportunities for girls to join the Armed Forces and said that the move will contribute to the nation's growth.
The positivity rate in the National Capital has been steadily going up north and the the current positivity rate stands at 23% with 22,751 new cases recorded in 24 hours on 9 January.
Meanwhile, the country has witnessed a massive spike of fresh cases with the figure clocking at 1.79 lakh fresh cases as on 10 January as compared to an average of 10,000-15,000 cases about 10 days ago.
The daily positivity rate in the country is also on the rise and it was reported to be 13.29 per cent as on 10 January.
The Union Health Ministry said that the rise appears to be driven by the Variant of Concern (VOC) "Omicron" and the continued presence of another VoC "Delta" in large geographies across the country.
As a result, some states have re-imposed lockdowns whereas others have re-introduced new restrictions to contain the spread of the virus.
